American Legion Members help form the Honor Guard whose mission is to provide military honors for funerals, memorial services, and other occasions as requested regardless of the service branch. The members of the Central Virginia Honor Guard are proud representatives of this most hallowed event, and our standard will remain perfection.  The Central Virginia Honor Guard’s dignified participation reflects the professionalism of our own service to our nation and leaves lasting impression of pride and support for the veteran’s family, friends, our local community, and a grateful nation.  

The Blue Star ceremony is one honor especially for new military families because these families perform a very crucial support role which takes a lot of effort and sacrifice for them.  Many times, it is the first experience these families have ever had with the military community. 

Post 116 partnered with the Blue Star Mothers of Central Virginia (https://bsfcv.avenue.org) to perform this ceremony honoring these Familieis,  The legion and The Blue Star Mothers of Central Virginia are especially tuned into Military Advocacy Programs with routinely sharing educational information and assisting fellow Blue Star members, friends, and all family members who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces.   

Help for Homeless Veterans, recently our Post assisted a homeless veteran resettle and another had an need for an emergency roof replacement.  These needs are usually short fused and with little warning.  The Post requires community funding, enabling these emergencies services to be rendered quickly.

April 2023, Post Commanders and Legion Auxiliary interviewed seven students recommended by the High School to attend Boys State, Girls State and Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Academies.  Additionally we are working with sponsoring another candidate from this High School Team to participate in the Louisa County Sheriff Office "Teen Law Enforcement Academy"
